Community Forest Governance Training
This program aims to equip forest-dependent communities with the knowledge and skills to manage and govern their forests sustainably. Training sessions focus on understanding the Community Rights Law, conflict resolution, decision-making processes, and benefit-sharing agreements. These initiatives ensure that communities have the capacity to advocate for their rights and effectively manage forest resources in line with Liberia’s legal frameworks.
Independent Forest Monitoring (IFM)
The Coalition undertakes systematic monitoring of forestry operations to identify infractions such as illegal logging, misuse of permits, or non-compliance with forestry regulations. The findings are documented in reports and shared with the government, private sector actors, and the public to push for accountability and improved forest governance.

The NGO Coalition workshop focuses on addressing key issues in forest governance, fostering dialogue for sustainable management and accountability.

Sharing insights on independent forest monitoring.
Advocacy for Policy Reforms
Through engagement with policymakers and stakeholders, this program addresses loopholes in Liberia’s forest management policies. The Coalition advocates for reforms to improve transparency, strengthen enforcement mechanisms, and ensure equitable sharing of forest-derived benefits among communities.
Benefit-Sharing Mechanism Implementation
This initiative ensures that revenue from logging and forest resources is equitably distributed among communities, government, and stakeholders. The Coalition monitors compliance with benefit-sharing agreements and facilitates discussions to resolve disputes over resource allocation.
Public Awareness Campaigns on Illegal Logging
The Coalition educates Liberians on the environmental, social, and economic impacts of illegal logging through radio programs, community meetings, and printed materials. The goal is to empower citizens to report forest infractions and support sustainable practices.
Sustainable Livelihood Programs for Forest Communities
Recognizing the reliance of rural Liberians on forest resources, the Coalition promotes alternative livelihood options such as eco-tourism, beekeeping, and agroforestry. These programs aim to reduce overdependence on forests while improving local economies.
Monitoring and Evaluating Forestry Laws Compliance
Regular reviews and scorecard assessments are conducted to evaluate the implementation of forestry laws by government agencies and logging companies. The Coalition uses these findings to advocate for better compliance and accountability.
Engagement with Regional and International Forest Initiatives
The Coalition collaborates with international partners and regional bodies like the African Union to address transboundary forest governance issues, climate change, and biodiversity conservation.
Forest Conservation and Biodiversity Projects
This program involves reforestation, tree planting campaigns, and protecting critical habitats for endangered species in Liberia. Community members are encouraged to participate actively in conservation efforts.
Capacity Building for Local Forest Management Bodies
The Coalition provides technical and managerial training to local forest management bodies, such as community forest management committees, to enhance their effectiveness in overseeing forest activities and resolving conflicts.
